Jammu June 20: The indefinite day-and-night Dharna being conducted by the ABVP Jammu University Unit against the recent fee hike and the proposed annual 10% fee increase continued uninterrupted for the fourth consecutive day today.
Following sustained student protests, the University Administration invited an ABVP delegation for discussions regarding the demands raised by the student community. The meeting was attended by the Dean Academic Affairs and the Dean Students Welfare on behalf of the University Administration. During the discussion, ABVP representatives firmly reiterated their key demands, including the immediate rollback of the fee hike for the academic session 2026–27, withdrawal of the proposed annual fee hike provision, and implementation of the principle of “One Province, One Course, One Fee.”
However, the discussions failed to yield any concrete assurance or positive outcome from the University Administration. No satisfactory response was provided regarding the rollback of the fee hike or the concerns of thousands of affected students. Consequently, the talks remained inconclusive.
Sannak Shrivats, State Secretary, ABVP Jammu Kashmir, stated:
“The student community is deeply disappointed by the indifferent attitude of the University Administration towards genuine student concerns. Arbitrary fee hikes place an unnecessary burden on students and their families. Higher education must remain accessible, affordable, and equitable for all.”
Amit Sadotra, University President, ABVP Jammu University Unit, asserted:
“The movement will continue until the legitimate demands of students are accepted. This protest is a democratic struggle for student rights, educational justice, and the protection of affordable higher education.”
Jayavardhani Singh Parihar, University Secretary, ABVP Jammu University Unit, said:
“Our demands are clear, justified, and in the interest of the student community. Until the fee hike is withdrawn and justice is delivered to students, the Dharna will continue with full strength and determination.”
ABVP Jammu University Unit has resolved to further intensify its agitation in the coming days if the University Administration continues to ignore the voices of thousands of affected students. The organization reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding student interests and ensuring that educational opportunities remain within the reach of every student.
