Kulgam, July 31: In a fresh act of terror in South Kashmir, suspected terrorists opened fire on non-local labourers working at a brick kiln in the Kelam area of Kulgam district on Friday evening, killing one worker and leaving another seriously injured.
According to official sources, the attack took place during the evening hours when armed assailants targeted labourers employed at the brick kiln. The sudden firing created panic in the area, with two workers suffering gunshot injuries.
The injured labourers were immediately shifted for medical assistance. However, one of them succumbed to his injuries before reaching the hospital. The second injured labourer was referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, where he is undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be under medical observation.
Following the attack, teams of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the Indian Army, and other security agencies rushed to the scene. The entire area was cordoned off, and a massive search operation was launched to track down the attackers. Security has also been intensified across the region as investigations into the incident continue.
Officials are working to establish the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the attack. Forensic and investigative teams have also been engaged as part of the ongoing probe.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the safety of non-local workers in the Kashmir Valley. It comes less than two weeks after terrorists shot dead a police officer in Anantnag, underlining the persistent threat posed by militant elements despite continuous counter-terror operations in the region.
