LG Manoj Sinha Reviews Academic & Administrative Reforms at Gandhi Memorial College Srinagar

 

SRINAGAR, July 27: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Monday chaired the introductory meeting of the newly constituted Governing Board of Gandhi Memorial College (GMC), Srinagar, at Raj Bhavan, where key academic, administrative and institutional reforms aimed at strengthening the college’s overall functioning were discussed.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Finance Department, Shri Shailendra Kumar; Commissioner/Secretary, Higher Education Department, Shri Ram Niwas Sharma; Commissioner/Secretary, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Achal Sethi; Director Colleges, Prof. (Dr.) S. Ajaz Bashir; President, Hindu Education Society Kashmir, Prof. B. L. Zutshi; Dean Academic Affairs, University of Kashmir, Prof. Shariefuddin Pirzada; Dean, College Development Council, Prof. (Dr.) Aneesa Shafi; Principal, Gandhi Memorial College, Prof. Masood Ahmad Malik, along with other members of the Governing Board and senior officials.

During the meeting, the Governing Board reviewed a range of issues of academic and administrative significance to enhance the quality of education, governance and institutional efficiency at the college.

Emphasising the need for a modern and transparent administrative framework, the Lieutenant Governor directed the formulation of a comprehensive policy to streamline the institution’s administrative and operational systems, ensuring greater accountability and efficiency.

The Board also held detailed deliberations on the adoption of the Rules of Business for the Governing Board, grant-in-aid to G.M. College of Education, Bantalab (Jammu), streamlining the recruitment process, extending pensionary benefits to eligible existing and retired employees with effect from 2002, strengthening campus infrastructure, revising the existing curriculum, and introducing new courses in line with the National Education Policy (NEP).

The meeting reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transforming Gandhi Memorial College into a progressive institution through improved governance, infrastructure development, faculty welfare and a future-ready academic ecosystem aligned with national education priorities.
