REASI, July 24: In a major success against cybercrime and public grievance redressal, Reasi Police have recovered 206 missing mobile phones and traced ₹33.49 lakh lost in various cyber fraud cases during 2026. The achievement reflects the district police’s sustained efforts to leverage technology, strengthen cyber investigations, and provide timely relief to victims of online financial frauds and lost mobile phones.
Addressing a press conference, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi, Mukund Tibrewal, said the recovered mobile phones belong to both local residents and pilgrims who had visited the revered Shri Mata Vaishno Devi and Shiv Khori shrines. He said every effort was made to trace the devices through technical investigation, and the recovered handsets are now being handed over to their rightful owners after completing all required legal formalities.
The SSP further informed that several recovered phones belong to pilgrims who have already returned to their respective states after completing their pilgrimage. To ensure they receive their belongings without inconvenience, Reasi Police will dispatch the recovered mobile phones to their registered addresses through courier after completing the prescribed legal procedures.
Highlighting the district’s action against cyber-enabled financial crimes, SSP Tibrewal stated that investigations carried out by the Cyber Cell have successfully traced ₹33.49 lakh that had been siphoned off in different online fraud cases. Of this amount, ₹17.36 lakh has already been refunded to the victims after obtaining the necessary court orders, providing substantial financial relief to those affected.
He added that the remaining recovered amount is currently under the due legal process and will be released to the concerned victims immediately after the completion of statutory formalities.
Emphasising the importance of prompt reporting, the SSP appealed to citizens and visiting pilgrims to report the loss of mobile phones at the earliest along with the device’s IMEI number, which significantly improves the chances of successful tracing and recovery. He also advised victims of cyber fraud not to delay reporting incidents and to immediately contact the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) or register complaints through the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, as timely reporting greatly enhances the possibility of freezing fraudulent transactions and recovering the lost money.
He reaffirmed that Reasi Police remain committed to strengthening cyber policing, enhancing public awareness, and ensuring swift action against cybercriminals. The continued recovery of lost property and cyber fraud proceeds, he said, reflects the force’s dedication to protecting citizens, assisting pilgrims, and creating a safer and more secure digital environment across the district.
