SRINAGAR, June 25: Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police (DGP) Nalin Prabhat on Thursday chaired a high-level security review meeting to assess preparations for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026, directing all security agencies to strengthen coordination, enhance surveillance, and maintain a proactive security posture throughout the pilgrimage.
The meeting brought together senior officers from the Army, CRPF, BSF, ITBP, SSB and Jammu and Kashmir Police to review the overall security framework for the annual pilgrimage. District police chiefs from Srinagar, Budgam, Bandipora and Ganderbal presented updates on deployment plans, route security, threat assessments and emergency response arrangements.
During the review, the DGP stressed the importance of close coordination among all security agencies, timely intelligence sharing and swift communication of actionable inputs to effectively counter potential threats.
Special focus was placed on the Baltal and Pahalgam pilgrimage routes. Officers were directed to intensify area domination, conduct regular anti-sabotage checks, and ensure thorough route sanitisation before and during the Yatra. Security audits of vulnerable locations, transit camps and other key facilities associated with the pilgrimage were also ordered.
Emphasising the use of technology in strengthening security, the DGP instructed field officers to enhance surveillance systems and maintain continuous monitoring of anti-national elements. He also reiterated that intelligence-based operations against terrorist networks and their support structures should continue without interruption.
The meeting reviewed convoy security, emergency preparedness and disaster management plans. Officials were instructed to keep Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs), rescue units and medical response teams on high alert to respond effectively to any emergency during the Yatra.
Highlighting the role of public participation, the DGP urged officers to strengthen community outreach and maintain close coordination with residents living along the pilgrimage routes, noting that local cooperation remains vital for ensuring a peaceful and secure Yatra.
The review also covered evacuation plans, communication systems, mock drills and deployment rehearsals being carried out ahead of the pilgrimage season.
Concluding the meeting, the DGP directed all field formations to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), remain vigilant round-the-clock and work in close coordination to ensure a safe, secure and incident-free Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026 while continuing sustained counter-terrorism operations across Jammu and Kashmir.
