Telegram Blocked Across India Till June 22 Ahead of NEET Re-Exam

New Delhi, June 16: The Government of India has temporarily blocked access to the Telegram messaging platform across the country until June 22 as a precautionary measure ahead of the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21. The decision was taken following concerns that Telegram channels were being used to circulate fake question papers, spread misinformation, and facilitate cheating-related activities linked to the examination. Authorities believe the temporary restriction will help ensure a fair and transparent examination process.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) had reportedly raised concerns over the misuse of social media platforms, particularly Telegram, after several groups claimed to possess leaked exam papers. While many of these claims were later found to be unverified, officials said preventive action was necessary to stop the spread of misleading content and maintain the integrity of the re-exam. Reports also indicate that certain Telegram features, including message editing, may face temporary restrictions during this period.

The move comes amid heightened scrutiny of examination security following controversies surrounding the original NEET-UG 2026 examination. Government agencies and cybercrime units have been monitoring online platforms for suspicious activity, with officials emphasizing that strict measures are being taken against those attempting to exploit students through fake paper leak scams. The temporary ban is expected to remain in effect until June 22, after which access to Telegram may be restored subject to a review by the authorities.
