Srinagar, June 24<\/strong><\/span>: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Jammu and Kashmir, has filed a chargesheet before the Special Judge, Anti-Corruption Court, Baramulla, against seven individuals, including six government officials and a contractor, in connection with the alleged embezzlement of government funds earmarked for development works in Kupwara district’s Lolab\/Lalpora block.<\/p>\n According to the ACB, the case stems from an inquiry into alleged irregularities in developmental projects undertaken by the Rural Development Department. The investigation focused on works related to the construction of a protective embankment at Margi Diver (Kariwan) Phase-I and a fisheries pond at Diver-B.<\/p>\n Officials said the preliminary verification uncovered several discrepancies, including inflated measurements, payments for work that was either incomplete or non-existent, execution of projects on forest land without necessary permissions, and release of funds despite deficiencies in execution quality. Based on these findings, an FIR was registered and a detailed investigation was initiated.<\/p>\n During the probe, investigators allegedly found evidence suggesting that certain officials, in coordination with a contractor, manipulated official records, exaggerated project measurements, and facilitated the unauthorized release of public funds. The investigation further indicated that false entries concerning tree felling were included in records to increase project costs and secure undue financial benefits.<\/p>\n Following the completion of the investigation and receipt of the required prosecution sanctions, the ACB submitted the chargesheet against the accused, including a former Block Development Officer, an Executive Engineer, an Assistant Executive Engineer, two Junior Engineers, a Village Level Worker\/Secretary Panchayat, and a contractor associated with the works.<\/p>\n All accused were presented before the court and were granted bail after furnishing the required personal bonds.<\/p>\n The charges have been framed under provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Prevention of Corruption Act and relevant sections of the Ranbir Penal Code (RPC).
